Our software is designed to work in a graphical MS Windows environment and works with the following versions of operating systems:
For Firebird 1.5.x : version MS Windows - 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000, XP
For Firebird 2.0.x: version MS Windows - 98, ME, NT, 2000, XP
Usage of Firebird
We use Firebird Superserver V1.5.2 and V1.5.3 and 2.0.x on Linux and Microsoft Windows. Firebird is used locally (desktop version) or on dedicated server. We make use of stored procedures, UDF's (our own) and many foreign keys. The typical size of our databases is between 10 MB up to 2GB and increasing fast... We also have software utilising Firebird that runs an internet shop. We are cuurently waiting for a finely threaded multiprocessor version of Firebird, because our customers have large databases and need many reports. Even better performance than we currently have would be good to see.
Why we use Firebird
The application was written using Delphi 7 and Kylix. The online shop uses PHP 5 Apache. Communication between the application and on line shop is simple straightforward and fast. Typically per day we store anywhere between 100 to 20,000 changes. Firebird is stable, fast and no administrator is neded, it is also free.
