What is the best Hard Drive for firebird... SAS? RAID 0 or RAID 10? SSD ?

I know about raid 0, but as we do backup everynight we accept the risk ...

Sean Leyne answers:

DO NOT USE RAID 0!!!

Use an SSD [1] for the database file, use a separate/single HDD for boot/OS and database backups storage.

Schedule backups to run multiple times a day.

  • [1] do not use desktop SSDs, use Intel X25-E (it is the best) or Intel X25-M (it is the best desktop SSD). The SSD will provide read performance that is as good (if not better) as RAID 0 without any of the risks of RAID 0.
