Usage of Firebird
Our suite of CRM and call center products is using Firebird as the database backend. Initially written to work with MS SQL Server, it was adapted to work and ship with InterBase and then Firebird. Since 2004 our default database is Firebird 1.5. Deployments are easy and straightforward, each installation usually handles 1-50 clients. Our databases range from 100MB to 1GB, with hundreds of thousands of transactions per month.
Why we use Firebird
Firebird is an excellent alternative to MSDE. It's light-weight and easy to distribute. It's free and the license is compatible with our closed source software. Performance and features compare very well to SQL Server and porting applications written to run against SQL Server is easy and straight forward.
