PhoenixVault
PhoenixVault is a secure replacement for Firebird Embedded with built-in transparent database encryption. Based on Firebird 5, it combines the Firebird client library, embedded engine, encryption and international support into a single runtime library.
Existing Firebird applications continue to use the standard Firebird API and SQL. No encryption-specific application code or external key management is required.
Secure Firebird Embedded¶
Every database created by PhoenixVault is automatically encrypted. Encryption is transparent to the application, with encryption keys generated internally from the Firebird user password and, optionally, information stored in the PhoenixVault deployment license.
This allows encrypted databases to be protected at different levels:
- by the Firebird user password
- for a particular customer
- for a particular installation
The encryption key itself does not need to be stored or distributed with the database.
PhoenixVault can also encrypt its configuration files to protect application database configuration against inspection or modification.
Easy Integration and Deployment¶
PhoenixVault is designed as a drop-in replacement for Firebird Embedded and the Firebird client library. Existing applications normally require little or no modification.
On Windows, the client library, embedded engine, encryption and international support are integrated into a single pvault.dll. The same library can also operate as a standard Firebird client when the application connects to a remote Firebird server.
PhoenixVault supports the standard Firebird client API, so existing Firebird connectivity libraries, components and tools can be used without any change.

The current release is based on Firebird 5.0.4.
Licensing¶
A perpetual license with unlimited application deployments could be purchased from our store for €3,000. There are no per-user or per-deployment license fees.
An optional annual maintenance subscription is available for €600.
Free 30-Day Trial¶
A fully functional 30-day trial is available free of charge. The trial package includes PhoenixVault, deployment tools and the complete User Guide.
Databases created during the trial remain accessible after purchasing the perpetual license. To preserve access, the permanent license must be purchased using the same customer identification as the trial license, and replacement deployment licenses must be generated with the same encryption parameters.
