IBAnalyst is a tool that allows a database administrator to analyze detailed Firebird or InterBase database statistics and then identify possible problems with database performance, maintenance and how an application interacts with the database. It graphically displays database statistics and can then automatically make intelligent suggestions about improving database performance and database maintenance.

The main purpose of IBAnalyst is to provide you with a visual display of your database statistics, and then offer valuable advice on how to to improve database performance based on the examination of database statistics.

By using this tool, a database administrator can to see in a few seconds all the actual and potential problems that might exist in a database, for example poor indices, fragmented tables, transaction states, etc and then get valuable and knowledgeable solutions how to solve these problems.

Both InterBase and Firebird have an existing command line tool called gstat that allows a database administrator to gather statistics about a particular database. These statistics are presented in a textual manner and a database administrator needs to spend a time reasing and evaluating the information in order to retrieve useful information from the gstat output.

But retrieving the information is not enough. Once the statistics have been retrived, the database administrator having evaluated the output then needs to make decisions based on the information retrieved. Without experience and knowledge of what the statistics mean it can be difficult to understand what to do with them.

First, IBAnalyst graphically displays all the database statistics, so a database administrator easily navigate through all the tables, indices and their relationships. You can view the status and IBAnalyst uses smart hints and coloured representations of what it considers could be problem areas.
