Firebird 1.0.3 release FAQ

This is a collection of notes concerning issues that have arisen subsequent to the release of Firebird 1.0.3.

Firebird Control Panel Applet throws errors under Win9x

Attempts to use the default control panel applet under Windows 95 et al will throw a stream of errors. This is because the applet would like to use the Services manager and Win9x doesn't have one. A fixed control panel applet is available for download from here. It contains a readme with more information and installation instructions.

Platforms: Win9x, (and probably WinME) only
Status: Fixed in Code. Download available.

Service Manager switch for gbak on Linux still doesn't work.

This bug was introduced with Firebird 1.0.2. It is fixed for Windows clients (gbak, gfix) in Firebird 1.0.3 but is still not fixed for Linux clients.

The problem does not affect servers, ie, a Windows gbak can use the /SE switch to connect to the Services Manager of a Linux Super Server instance.

Platforms: All Unix like O/S since Firebird 1.0.2
Status: A fix is planned.
